'Drums of Brazil - Book 1' focuses on the study of the rebolo, repique de mão, tantan and multi-percussion, the combination of different percussion instruments. The method carries out hand coordination and independence exercises to develop the skills required by these instruments.

To diversify and facilitate learning, the use of a cylindrical drumstick attached to the instrument's shell is recommended. This allows the development of certain skills and techniques that have never been explored before on such instruments. We call this effect 'Rebolo de Esteira' or 'TanTan de Esteira' because it is reminiscent of the sound of snare wires as used on a snare drum. Please note that the repique de mão does not allow this technique. The stick on the shell is also only a suggestion; you can, of course, enjoy the book without using it.

The combination of several percussion instruments is made possible by a practical and contemporary musical syntax. The percussion student can try mixing instruments such as caxixi and tantan, agogô and atabaque, or any of the many possible combinations in percussion or even established configurations such as a pair of congas or even a complete drum kit.

A variety of exercises are offered, with particular emphasis on hand coordination and independence alongside percussive accents, subdivisions and polyrhythms. There is also a challenging exercise in alternating hand dynamics to sharpen the student's technique.

To further their development with the instrument, the book covers much of the varied Brazilian rhythms such as Afoxé and Baião, alongside other obvious ones such as the Samba and Bossa Nova, as well as compound and irregular rhythms. To remove any doubts, some exercises and rhythm samples from the book are available as download links with sample videos.
