SAMBA REGGAE - AFRO SAMBA WORKSHOP
FIND YOUR PERFECT SWING!
We will play original rhythms of the Brazilian Afro blocos from Salvador da Bahia. The focus will be on two main rhythms - the Afro Samba and the Samba Reggae. With arrangements by Ilê Aiyê and Olodum which are also part of the repertory of the European bloco BAHIA CONNECTION, we will intensively train you on soundscaping, playing techniques and especially on getting the swing of each instrument. We will also pay special attention to each instrument group. At the same time this is an introduction to the rhythms of the Bahia Connection.
All instruments typically played in the Afro Blocos are welcome: caixa, repinique, dobra, fundo and the timbal for Ilê Aiyê's Afro Samba. In Olodum's arrangements, the timbal is generally not part of the ensemble. Then it would be nice if you played a different instrument. If you like to play only timbal, we will show you suitable grooves for accompaning Samba Reggae.
The workshop mestres are Michael de Miranda (founder of the BC Netherlands) and Volker Conrath (founder of the Bahia Connection; mestre of Bloco Explosão Berlin).
