09.-11.8.2024 SAMBA IN HARTBERG – Austria's Samba festival
We are delighted that the idyllic town of Hartberg and Vienna's Samba School Baturim are once again inviting guests to their small and exquisite workshop and town festival! The very finest Samba from the Alps you might say! The Hartberg Cultural Events Association, which also includes members of the renowned Vienna Escola de Samba Baturim, have once again announced a three-day festival in Eastern Styria to celebrate a colourful festival of both cultures. The event is still quite new on the European samba scene and has recently been met with exuberant enthusiasm, while afternoon and evening shows enchanted the audience with Samba, dance and Pagode sessions. The whole town revels in samba fever for a whole weekend, with visitors and participants alike delighted by the colourful, vibrant and passionately put together programme on the historic town plaza, where spectators are whisked away into the world of Brazilian percussion and dance.
Samba in beautiful Eastern Styria
Baturim has been active in Vienna for almost two decades under the direction of Clarissa Altmann with a fiery energetic and authentic Rio-style bateria - both culturally and musically. The mestra has been playing regularly with some of Rio's most renowned Samba schools at the Rio Carnival for over a decade and wanted to bring this spirit to the people in her home country. With the Hartbergers and dedicated band members, this has become a reality.
Brazilian food and drinks will be served on all three days. Besides, the town square is filled with marvellous gastronomic options (be sure to feast your way through!). A children's programme (instrument making for kids) ensures a family-friendly atmosphere. And if you've never been there before, Hartberg is a small town in a hilly Alpine landscape with a historic town centre and pretty market square, where people meet, the restaurants are buzzing and the little things in life are appreciated far away from the hustle and bustle and noise of big cities. Culinary delights, culture and hospitality are very important here, which was mady abundantly clear at the first Samba events in recent years. The fact that another round of the Hartberg Samba Festival is now so eagerly awaited is a promising indication that this still young event is already one of the jewels of the European Samba scene.
