Brazil's often underestimated small-sized drum! Musicians used to play the tamborim with nothing but a thin stick or - in Samba de mesa percussion ensembles - with their fingers only! However, Rio's Samba schools nowadays play high-tuned tamborins with nylon beaters which requires modern playing techniques and produces different swing and sound.
