alfaia - bombo de maracatu

The alfaia (or bumbo, bombo de Maracatu) is the main instrument in the Maracatu de Baque Virado. Chico Science and the Mangue Beat Movement made the alfaia popular in the early 90’s, now the alfaia is known all over Brazil and is used by percussionists in many popular musical styles like the Mangue, the Funkeado and Embolada.
