Gabriel Lopes (Monobloco), musician, teacher, always following the tracks of the Samba School Baterias as well as author of the books As Bossas do Mestre Maurão and Mestre Dudu's As Paradinhas da não existe mais quente is touring Europe from May to June 2023 offering 2 different workshops. On this occasion, he will also present his latest book (coming soon here in our shop!) Funtamentals of a Samba School Bateria.
All levels are welcome! Gabriel will bring lots of exciting Samba input to push your bateria performance and tell you what else is hot in Rio in terms of Samba. Gabriel offers two differently structured workshops and will tailor them to suit the level of your group:
Workshop 1: Traditional Samba from Rio de Janeiro
- basic Samba Patterns
- instrument techniques
- the role of each instrument
- different styles of baterias
- elements of arrangements
- bossas (breaks), classical and contemporary
Workshop 2: Contemporary Batucada
- differences between blocos and Samba school baterias
- instrument techniques
- adapted grooves (funk, coco, maracatu, maculele etc.)
- elements of arrangements that you can use for your own group
