Double stringed 12'' x 17cm caixa by IVSOM

Rio style caixa players listen up:
Twice as many strings for twice as much sound!
This beauty has 6 strings on the batter side and 6 more strings on the inside of the resonance head.
The strings on the inside of the resonance head have a muffling effect, producing a massive dry sound. The snare-sound is simply doubled!

Double stringed - double sound!

An aspect for fine ears: often the typical Rio-style caixas have an annoying overtone, which automatically appears when you start playing the instrument. The double stringed caixa intuitively sounds more muffled due to the strings strapped to both heads. With this, disturbing side effects have no chance. The caixa sounds super dry, just the tone we´re searching for for a Rio style bateria. By the way, this caixa even sounds great if it is not pitched too high!
Obvious fact is - this is a Rio Style caixa with massive and super sound!

Samba trend and design by IVSOM for XL-sound!

What does B-stock mean?

B-Stock articles are products that have been used, for example, as display items, that have been demonstrated at an occasion and therefore show slight signs of use, or that have marks or slight defects due to the transport from Brazil to Europe, as well as return shipments. The defects are always minor, i.e. they have no influence on the playability, general function or the sound of the instruments. Slight defects are e.g. scratches or fingerprints, small dents, discolorations or slight traces of use. There might not be original packaging for B-stock articles, in this case we will provide adecuate and sufficient transport protection. With the purchase of any B-stock item you have the full right for warranty as well as the right to cancel and return.

Please find further information about B-stock articles in our FAQ.

IVSOM in Brazil
IVSOM is a producer of authentic Samba instruments in Rio de Janeiro. The brand name is a wordplay with his own name which is Ivson, and the Braziliain word for sound which is 'som'. Before becoming self-employed, Ivson absolved a profound formation in the metalworking craft sector. Ivson has been an active sambista for many years. He plays caixa for Mocidade, his wife and business partner Luciana plays the chocalho. Therefore he is very close to his clients and knows exactly, what is in demand. Ivson actively participates in the production of his instruments and makes excellent-quality instruments in a very well organized workshop. Some of Rio´s major Samba schools play his instruments. Quite frecuently Ivson surprises us with new features and innovations. Due to his close contact to the Samba scene, he is often the first to convert buzzing ideas and or incitations into useful inspiration for making new instruments. The IVSOM 'vasado' caixas and repiniques created the trend of instruments without bodies.

IVSOM in Europe
IVSOM instruments have gained high recognition amongst Hardcore Rio Sambistas in Europe within the last couple of years. Especially their good workmanship and the excellent sound of the drums have attracted the percussionist´s attenention over here. The number of IVSOM fans is growing larger each year.

Percussion instrumens
IVSOM drums have a couple of untypical characteristics. For example, the tension rods are flush with the rim. This link is very stable and absolutely free of rattling noises, but a bit more time-consuming in its montage. The surdos have a neat detail concerning the rims of the body where the head rests. The body´s wall is rimmed around a 10 mm flat bar. With this the corpus is a lot more stable than other bodies where wire is used for reinforcement. Like this the drums obtain a smooth and flat rim for ideal head fitting. IVSOM´s reference product is the rocar..
