The rocar or chocalho has taken over the former part of the ganzá in all Samba schools. Its loud and penetrant sound creates a strong base for the other instruments. It contributes a high per centage to a good swing in any modern samba bateria and covers the high frequency, the socalled white noise. Different types of chocalhos come as metal frames or wood handle rocars, and also in compact sizes for kids or young sambistas. Typical Rio-Samba style instrument!
