A powerful and true treasure trove for all musicians, ethnologists and people interested in Brazilian society who know the Portuguese language. The book is composed of extensive articles about the project, which lasted two years and gave scientists a deep insight into the life of people in a community of a traditional Maracatu and reflects the content, history and structure of Leão Coroado. Detailed biographies of Luis de França and Alfonso Aguiar share the history of the Maracatu. Analyses of the special Toque of Leão Coroado, of their culture and community shaped by the Maracatu, complete the picture. An 87-page, mostly colorfully illustrated photo section with many historical pictures completes the scientific work.
The project is the result of the realization that there is hardly any information on the almost 200-year old tradition of the Maracatu Nação. With the publication of this book it has been possible to fill this gap. The promise given in the title to get information about tradition, culture and religion is thus fulfilled. In addition to the book, the DVD Maracatu - Leão Coroado has been released.
