Megasamba - Portugal's wildest Samba party in the beautiful bay of Sesimbra celebrates its 10th anniversary
From July 28-31, 2022 it's finally happening again - after a gap of several years - one of Europe's samba highlights is back! The Megasamba south of Lisbon in Portugal with beautiful beaches, turquoise Atlantic, hundreds of sambistas, dancers and guests from all over Europe - huge, crazy, beautiful - don't miss it!
The host of the MegaSamba Festival is the Samba School Grupo Recreativo Escola de Samba Bota de Sesimbra. Just a stone's throw from Lisbon is the fishing village of Sesimbra, now a popular holiday destination, known especially for its historical heritage and gastronomy. Sesimbra is now also known, of course, for its Samba tradition.
Seaside, beach, sun & samba. What more could you wish for?
With a history of more than 40 years and a collection of some 200 compositions during its carnival years, Sesimbra is now a rhythmic cauldron, particularly characterised by the Carioca-style samba schools. Since opening its doors, G.R.E.S. Bota has promoted various initiatives to spread Samba throughout its long history (since 1976), bringing together people from different cultures and launching its festival, now famous beyond the borders of Europe, as the ultimate expression of their enthusiasm for Samba. MegaSamba is now considered one of the largest and most important cultural Samba events in Europe and a reference of its kind.
With a "stage" as beautiful as the Sesimbra Bay, the MegaSamba offers a rich, diverse and very dynamic programme. During the event, participants are invited to various percussion and dance workshops, composition/harmony, Samba de gafieira, among others. The festival has always relied on a team of mestres and musicians with many years of experience who are prepared for different levels of learning, making the event suitable for almost any level of participant.
There are also several shows during the 3 days of the event, rehearsals of the MegaBateria and on the last day of the event a joint performance of MegaBateria with all participating Samba dancers and guests. The Ritmista and Passista workshops are already fully booked but there are still a few places left in other workshops.
