Ritmos Que Integran 2023 - Rhythms that integrate

Ritmos Que Integran 2023 - Rhythms That Integrate

The first solidarity Samba percussion festival for intellectual disabilities invites you to their event on May 28th to celebrate a musical get-together in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. Workshops, DJs, raffles and a lovely family programm await you!

The first European Samba Festival solidary with Intellectual Disabilities

On Saturday, May 27th, the festival "Ritmos que Integran" (Rhythms that Integrate) will take place in the town of Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. This is the first solidarity Samba percussion festival solidary with and supporting people with intellectual disabilities.

Everybody is welcome - Samba is for everyone.

The festival is organised by the association TUPUJUME (Tu Puedes, Juntos Mejor - You Can - Together we're Better), through its project La Tribu Tupujume and aims to break social stereotypes and take a step forward in the normalization and better inclusion of intellectual disabilities. More than 300 percussionists are expected to the Afro-Brazil workshops held on site by several mestres.

Mestres:

  • Antonio Monedero: drummer, percussionist, teacher and producer from Madrid who has worked with artists and groups of national renown, as well as touring throughout Spain and abroad.
  • Unai Cañada: Founder, mestre and president of the socio-cultural association Bloko del Valle and Energía Bloko de Tenerife.

The origin of Ritmos que Integran:

It all started as a result of one of the internal workshops of the association. Someone started teaching what he knew about percussion with some borrowed instruments, whipped up some basic rhythms and taught a bunch of students. Seeing the success of this workshop and how interested the kids were, more and more wanted to join, enjoying to learn all about batucadas, Brazilian beats and how to play the instruments. Shortly after, a first proper set of instruments was bought, and with this, La Tribu Tupujume was born in May of 2021. The festival is still quite new in the European Samba scene, this is only the second edition of their Encontro. Due to its' great success in the first round, it continues to drawing much attention as their concept is unique.

The focus of the event is, of course, the musical nature and the integration of people, especially children and young people with intellectual disabilities. Inclusion and the reduction of prejudices are an important part of de-dogmatisation and the musical aspect helps with all this, connects people and addresses the problems that people with special needs face in everyday life in a relaxed and non-political way.

There will be a little percussion stall, prize raffles, a parade, concerts, party and DJ.
Kalango is very proud to be a supporter of this event!
