Timbal 14'' x 80 cm - aluminium with 16 hooks - crispy street timbal sound in compact size
80cm timbals are exactly what we were still missing! They are the perfect size inbetween the large 90cm standard size and the short 70cm version.
If you are looking for a compact timbal without loosing the feature of the great sound you get with large resonance bodies, then the 80cm timbal is just about perfect for you. The diameter is 14" - same as the big timbals, the only real difference is that there are 10cm less length on the shell. Aluminium sounds quite sharp and penetrating compared to wood instruments. If you have already heard a 16 hook timbal, then you will know the difference and appreciate the high pitch you can achieve with this tension technique. High and crispy slaps, voluminous open tones and a rich bass are the sound characteristics of this Brazilian hand drum. With an aluminium shell you needn't worry during a rainy carnival parade or a sudden downpour during your gig.
Many Axé Pop band, but also some of the traditional blocos have been going along for some years already with the trend of tuning timbals extremely high. The genious idea of spreading the tension onto more and stronger hardware makes this possible easily. This trend would not be possible on a regular timbal.
More hardware (hooks, reinforcing material) naturally means more weight, too. This shorter timbal version might be a good inbetween-solution as you save weight through the smaller sized shell.
Handsome, well made instrument with smacky aluminium sound, rustical look and adaptable in a great range of music styles.

"Izzo"
High-quality instruments for Rio Samba and Samba Reggae, which are especially popular and proven in schools! For quite some years now, instrument builder IZZO remains among the top brands of Brazilian Samba percussios. It has been a while that IZZO instruments from São Paulo were rather simple percussion instruments which were very popular in Brazil due to their good price range.
Then they began to constantly increase their standard of Samba instruments until they reached a top-class level. By now they have become a serious manufacturer with a wide range of very well manufactured instruments which are known throughout the international market.
IZZO achieved a special coup when in 2010 they lanced their top brand TIMBRA. TIMBRA instruments were developed in close cooperation with renowned percussionists. The objective was to create convincing series of instruments with great sound, optically outstanding and adecuate for stage gigs. Especially the timbals, made of either wood or aluminium, set new standards with their 16 tuning hooks, extraordinary design and spectacular sound.
Today IZZO is completely in the league of the old-established traditional brands of Samba instruments.
