Surdo Axé 22'' x 40 cm - inverted nappa heads and extra large resonance hole for stage mic instalation
22'' marcação surdo for Samba Reggae / Afro Samba with a short shell and voluminous and warm XL bass!
The short bodies have their origin in Bahia, where sambistas traditionally dance lots of choreographies and lift the surdos up above their heads for show effects. A shorter shell saves weight and is handier. Also a short body produces a shorter sustain which is exactly the sound you want to have when playing Bahia styles.
The surdo comes with an inverted korino head. Korino or nappa heads are multilayer heads made of a nappa and a nylon layer. The inverted version has turned the layers upsidedown: the nylon layer is on top while the nappa is on the inside. Like this don´t loose sound quality and keep the attack, the tone stays defined but still you get the typical warm and deep bass sound of a korino head.
Timbra surdos look classy and are popular for especially for stage gigs. The also have more tension rods and therefore of course weigh a little bit more. This fundo is all shiny polished with chromed, well manufactured hardware.

In 2010, IZZO managed to pull off a remarkable milestone by lancing their high-end show brand TIMBRA TOP PERCUSSION.
