White surdo Axé 20'' x 40 cm - inverted nappa head
White Bahia style stage gig surdo!
20'' marcação surdo for Samba Reggae / Afro Samba with a short shell and voluminous bass with short sustain! The short shells have their origin in Bahia, where sambistas traditionally dance lots of choreographies and lift the surdos up above their heads for show effects. A shorter shell saves weight and is handier. Also a short body produces a shorter sustain which is exactly the sound you want to have when playing Bahia styles.
Timbra surdos look classy and are popular especially for stage gigs. They have more hardware bits and tension rods for a more sensible tuning than normal street surdos and are therefore a bit on the heavier side, however, their sound is excellent! This fundo has a white paint finish and chromed, carefully manufactured hardware.
A real eyecatcher!
The surdo comes with a 20'' inverted korino head and a nylon resonance head. Korino (also: nappa) heads are combined multilayer heads made of one nappa and one nylon layer. The inverted version uses the layers upsidedown: the nylon layer is on top while the nappa faces the inside. Like this you won´t loose any sound quality and keep the attack, the tone stays defined but you'll still get the typical warm and deep bass sound of a korino head.

"Timbra"
In 2010, IZZO managed to pull off a remarkable milestone by lancing their high-end show brand TIMBRA TOP PERCUSSION.
All TIMBRA Samba instruments have been developed in close cooperation with renowned percussionists. The objective was to create convincing series of instruments with great sound, optically outstanding and adecuate for stage gigs. Especially the timbals, made of either wood or aluminium, set new standards with their 16 tuning hooks, extraordinary design and spectacular sound.
TIMBRA builds all kinds of Samba instruments from wood and aluminium surdos, cuicas, rebolos to tantans and timbals. A special eye-catcher was one of the brand's first lines - the Carlinhos Brown Signature Series with timbals and bacurinhas with elaborate colour prints and designs on vinyls. High-quality workmanship, authentic sounds and flashy designs are still the main trademarks of TIMBRA.
