Repique de Mão 12'' aluminium, black - Gope
The repique de mão is the cherry on the cake of every Pagode session. Whilst musically not a 'must-have', it is always a great instrument to have that brings a lot of personality to any session. It contributes those vibes that make a Samba de mesa , if played with virtuosity, this instrument is absolutely impressive! It pushes and creates an incredible swing, simply by giving dominant contra rhythms played on the outside of its shell. The instrument is held sidewards on your lap, actually like a tan tan or a rebolo, only that it is shorter and has a synthetic head. With one hand you play the typical Partido Alto rhythms, with the other hand you give contra with the complementary rhythms. The musical construction is highly percussive and - typical Brazilian - most of the syncopated rhythms are offbeat. The swing that is created like this won't let you rest for long - you will want to jump up from your seat immediately and dance!
The repique de mão by Artcelsior is made of polished aluminium, the tension hoop is still oldschool style made of round metal. Artcelsior is one of Rio's oldest and most established instrument manufactories. Throughout the last decades they have managed to produce beautiful and authentic Samba percussion instruments in close cooperation with musicians and sambistas.

"Gope"
GOPE is a family-run business from the area around São Paulo. Today the company is being run in its third generation by the grand daughter of the firm´s founder.
The brand GOPE has been producing drums and smallpercussion instruments for over 50 years now. When the company was founded, there was already a small workshop in which drumsets were manufactured.
In 1962, the production of the typical Samba instruments began, iniciated by Humberto Rodella, the son of the founder. The company kept growing and after several relocations in São Paulo, GOPE finally found the right place for building a large production hall in Embu Guaçu, a suburb of São Paulo.
Since then GOPE produces in Embu Guaçu everything from the Agogô to the Zabumba, a wide range of percussion instruments, and only recently also various wind instruments.
GOPE has always kept in close touch with the musicians. The ideas and proposals for modifications that they received from many of those contacts, have always had much influence in the development of new instruments and improvement of production.
