Cuica bamboo sticks - set of 2 - Gope
|weight (net):||0,05 kg|
Set of 2 thin gambitos for cuica, includes string
Your cuica stick broke? Never mind, just put in a new one.
Wetten the cuica skin in the middle around the bamboo stick until the skin is soft, then carefully open the knot with which the gambito is tied in and take out the broken leftovers of the stick.
Sand down the new gambito a bit with a piece of sand paper depending on how thin you like to play it. Then place the stick in the middle of the soaked skin and tie a new knot. The skin has to be really wet and soft in the middle, otherwise you won´t be able to put in the new stick properly. Ask a sambista friend to give you a hand, it is easier if one person holds the gambito and the skin and the other ties the knot. With a bit of practice you´ll soon get the trick!
The cuica skin with the new gambito will need at least over night to dry (important! don´t use a hairdryer, heating or sun to dry the head as it will get brittle and tear), therefore cuiqueiros usually take a spare head with a tied-in stick with them. If it does happen, that your gambito breaks during a gig, you are prepared and just pop on your spare cuica head. Then you have time to change the broken gambito and until the next day your new 'exchange' head will be dry and ready again.
Note about spare parts:
We recommend that you always purchase spare parts of the same brand as your instrument to ensure fit and function. We cannot assume any warranty for different-brand combinations. If you are looking for a spare part that you cannot find on our site, please contact us!

GOPE is a family-run business from the area around São Paulo. Today the company is being run in its third generation by the grand daughter of the firm´s founder.
The brand GOPE has been producing drums and smallpercussion instruments for over 50 years now. When the company was founded, there was already a small workshop in which drumsets were manufactured.
In 1962, the production of the typical Samba instruments began, iniciated by Humberto Rodella, the son of the founder. The company kept growing and after several relocations in São Paulo, GOPE finally found the right place for building a large production hall in Embu Guaçu, a suburb of São Paulo.
Since then GOPE produces in Embu Guaçu everything from the Agogô to the Zabumba, a wide range of percussion instruments, and only recently also various wind instruments.
GOPE has always kept in close touch with the musicians. The ideas and proposals for modifications that they received from many of those contacts, have always had much influence in the development of new instruments and improvement of production.
