In Bahia, the bay of all saints, everything flows together musically speaking. Join us on an extraordinary workshop trip in a small group where you will gain a deep insight not only into music and rhythms, but also have a first-hand experience of the Brazilian culture.
Programme
As the workshop takes place directly next to the famous Pelourinho, the symbolic heart of Samba Raggae and Candomblé, you will have many opportunities to discover interesting and unusual things during walks through the historic centre after class. Music and drum sounds are constant companions in the small cobble stone streets. You will meet groups rehearsing publicly in the streets, but also evening concerts by popular bands. For the more culturally interested, there are Afro-Brazilian museums and galleries that provide information about the history, the land, the culture and the people. Our workshop is right in the middle of it all. Immerse yourself in the bustling life of this historic city bursting with music and experience the colourful atmosphere of its residents at first hand. You can go to concerts and, together with Dudu, you may also attend Candomblé ceremonies.

Feel free to arrive to Salvador earlier and settle in at your own pace. Krista and Dudu will be happy to give you tips for things to do and have lots of ideas for activities to get you in the swing of things with the country, its music and its people. Small excursions to the beach, strolls through the city as well as concert visits will reveal the uniqueness of Salvador and let you absorb the wonderful and vibrant atmosphere of this city. We are happy to use our many years of experience and many friendly contacts in Bahia to help connect you as a participant to the cultural happenings in Bahia.
Workshops - Sessions - Holidays
Carnival! The workshop begins in the hot phase of the pre-carnival season. This is the perfect opportunity to visit the rehearsals of the big blocos: Timbalada, Olodum, Ilé Ayê or Filhos de Gandhy. The entire old town buzzes, filled with music and drum beats, as if in a fever in anticipation of the big celebration.
Salvador da Bahia
Salvador and its tropical coastline are particularly influenced by African culture and tradition. Those who want to get to know Afro-Brazilian culture will find music, percussion, dance, religious ceremonies and museums in endless abundance. In the historic heart of the city around the Pelourinho with its cobbled alleys, many rehearsals of the blocos are held in public. The old town of Bahia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
