Batuque é um privilégio - Oscar Bolão
A percussão na música do Rio de Janeiro

Language: Portuguese
Book with CD

The book, written by musician Oscar Bolão, is the last work of the late Almir Chediak, a master who, among other things, discovered talents to further enrich Brazilian pop music. Batuque É um Privilégio focuses on the popular music developed in Rio de Janeiro and presents its main genres such as Samba, Choro, Maxixe, Marchinha, Polka and the Brazilian Waltz, accompanied by historical information about their origins, instruments, musicians and composers. The book shows in a clear and objective way the basics for the correct execution of the rhythms on different percussion instruments such as the surdo, the chocalho and the pandeiro, amongst others. The work also includes a separate chapter on Luciano Perrone, one of Brazil's greatest drummers ever, considered by many to be the father of Brazilian percussion. Batuque É um Privilégio is intended for musicians, composers and arrangers and offers basic practical exercises for students with illustrations showing the correct positions for each instrument and a free CD with audio examples for each exercise. The drummer, percussionist and great musicologist Oscar Bolão began his career in the Coisa Nossa group, where he conducted research on Brazilian music of the 1920s and in particular the work of Noel Rosa. The work appreciates the musical formation of Luciano Perrone and Professor Luiz Anunciação.
Oscar Bolão has collaborated with several greats of the MPB, such as Marlene, Emilinha Borba, Nelson Cavaquinho, Braguinha, Lenine, Nara Leão and many others. A former soloist in the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and the Brazilian String Orchestra, he is now a percussionist with the Brazilian Tap Dance Orchestra, the Pixinguinha Orchestra and the Anacleto de Medeiros Chamber Band. He is also an integral part of the Novo Quinteto group and participates in several drum and percussion projects in Brazil and abroad.
