Cavaquinho
 | The cavaquinho started its long journey around the whole world in Portugal. Not only because of its small size it was a perfect travel companion of many sailors and globetrotters. Thus the cavaquinho travelled via Madeira, the Azores, the Cape Verde Islands to Brazil and also to Hawaii where it became the Ukelele. In Brazil it mainly is played in the Choro and Samba, either with a plectrum or just picked with the fingers. Whether used for solo parts or for accompanying the vocals, the cavaquinho is an elementary part of brazilian music! |
