| | The reco reco has experienced a comeback in the past few years since the samba schools rediscovered the "dirty", penetrating sound of this uniqie instrument. The player rhythmically strikes the metalic springs with a metal stick and produces various tones by damping with the thumb. The sound layer created by this technique is a perfect basis for the other instruments of the bateria.
The reco reco is also a multifaceted effect instrument.
