The alfaia is the main instrument in «Maracatu de Baque Virado». Made popular by Chico Science and the Mangue Beat Movement in the early 90’s, the Alfaia is now well known all over Brazil and is nowadays used by percussionists in various popular musical styles like funkeado and embolada. Our alfaias come directly from Recife/Pernambuco, from the workshop of an experienced traditional drum maker and percussionist. They are made with great devotion to detail in small series.
